The Classic Motor Show 2013, NEC, Birmingham

It's a massive event, over 3 days, filling many halls at the NEC, with thousands of visitors, featuring cars of every type and every age and this year pride of place on the MX-5 Owners Club stand was given to Project Merlot.
The theme of the show this year was "classics reunited" and not to be outdone we had our very own reunion when the previous owner of Project Merlot Black donor car, Liz Turner, who came along to see what we had done to her pride and joy! Well, she seemed reasonably happy, and it was good to catch up with her, and get her to sign a copy of her book, Haynes Mazda MX-5/Miata, which also featured the original Project Merlot!
There's nothing better than spending a whole three days talking about your favourite subject, MX-5s and the MX-5 Owners Club, but phew, it is exhausting.
A great weekend and a great honour to have the car there.

2 August 2013

Read all about it...

.. in the August edition of the MX-5 Owners Club magazine, Soft Top Hardtop.

Pages 32, 33 and 34 feature Project Merlot in its latest full colour feature, complete with photos from the Blyton 1-3. Read all about how Project Merlot's been getting on lately and how Adrian Flux came to our rescue.  Thanks Adrian Flux...

...and now, its the Blyton 1-3..

With its new spoiler and new Adrian Flux decals Project Merlot headed up the A1 on Saturday 22 June for the MX-5 Owners Club Blyton 1-3 track event.  2012 saw the Merlot help the MX-5 OC set a new Guinness World Record at Blyton but the plans for 2013 were to concentrate on the track driving, and just have fun!

5 drivers took the Merlot out on track in various sessions over the two day event and all who took to the wheel gave the car a real good workout and in the open pit sessions in the afternoons the car was barely off the track. But as we have come to expect the car took it all in its stride, and even with MAX5 Race Cars on the the track very few could catch the Merlot.

When it came time to relax the team (and the car) took to the bar for a well earned break.

This was the Clubs second Blyton event and many would like to see it become a regular annual do. Will that happen?  I think we will all have to wait and see, but lets hope so.

Merlot goes to Scotland...

Nearly 500 miles there and 500 miles back again, Project Merlot headed north of the border to the MX-5 Owners Club Spring Rally in Pitlochry over the weekend of 18-19 May. With it raining nearly all the way up it was a challenging drive but we arrived to claim pole position right outside the main rally hotel.

Sunday saw the Merlot enter into competition and not winning anything, but hey, its the taking part that counts.

With some far nicer weather on Monday we headed home the pretty way. There is no better place to drive an MX-5 than on the Scottish Highland roads and no better MX-5 than Project Merlot to do that in.

Project Merlot goes forward with Adrian Flux Car Insurance.

We are very pleased to announce that Project Merlot is now insured by Adrian Flux through the MX-5 Owners Club member benefits scheme which the insurer launched with the Club in March this year.
Adrian Flux, through the Club scheme, can offer MX-5 Owners Club members substantial discounts on all car, motorcycle and home insurance purchased. Plus Club members have the added satisfaction in knowing that the Club benefits from the purchases too.

The Merlot now sports the Adrian Flux logo which we think look pretty cool on the car.

And you won't have failed to notice the other new addition to the car! We thought we were a bit short of downforce, so we stuck this bad boy wing on the back of Project Merlot. What do you reckon ? Is it big enough ?

Project Merlot will be heading to the MX-5 Owners Club Spring Rally in Pitlochry Scotland over the weekend of 18-18 May and then to the Blyton 1-3 in June, check out the new mods there.
